What is Cell Crystallization?

Biocrystallization is the formation of Crystals from organic macromolecules by Living organisms. This may be a stress response, a normal part of Metabolism such as processes that dispose of waste compounds, or a Pathology. Template mediated Crystallisation is qualitatively different from in vitro Crystallisation.

The main purpose of a Crystallisation in an organic chemistry procedure is to purify the desired compound. Crystallisation also may be used to isolate an solid organic compound from a mixture of compounds in a step in the work-up of a reaction mixture.
