In well of death, motorcyclists doesn't falls down. Why?
Ans: When a bike moves on the walls, there are a number of forces act on vehicle. These forces cancel out each other and the rider does not fall down. Let us see what exactly is happening.
See the figure below. Different acting forces have been shown. These forces are-weight , friction force & reaction force. One more force which missing from the figure is Centripetal force.
All these forces are under equilibrium hand hence, the rider does not fall. Note that that, there is a threshold speed limit over which only the friction force becomes so strong that it cancels out the weight.
Now we will discuss each of these forces in detail.
Centripetal Force: When a body moves in a circle, a force acts on it. This is called Centripetal force. This force is necessary for circular motion. In this case, this force is provide by the reaction force.
Centrifugal Force: It’s a virtual force which actually is the reaction force of Centripetal force which is felt by the body.
Normal Reaction Force: It’s as discussed earlier, is the reaction force as per Newton’s 3rd law.
Friction Force: Whenever some body moves or another body,. It opposes that motion. This force is called Friction force.
